San Jose State and The NFL Playoffs

This is my rare moment to talk about the NFL Playoffs (and the 'glory days') and the impact my alma mater, San Jose State, has had on the process.

Two of my former teammates, Joe Nedney and Jeff Garcia, have made notable contributions. For those Chiefs fans out there, last night Joe Nedney kicked a 36-yeard field goal in overtime to knock the Broncos out of the playoffs, and more importantly, opened the door for the Chiefs to occupy the last playoff spot in the AFC. Way to go Joe!

The 'San Jose State Playoff Impact' does not end with Nedney. The Chiefs head coach, Herman Edwards, got his coaching start at San Jose State. He was my defensive backs coach when I was a freshman. James Saxon, running backs coach for the Chiefs, played at San Jose State just before I got there. And Terry Shea, quartebacks coach, was the head coach at San Jose State when we won the California Bowl and finished in the AP top twenty. He is also the one who 'discovered' and 'developed ' Jeff Garcia, who filling in for the injured Donovan McNabb, has led the Eagles to five victories in their last six games, and the division title.

The football program at San Jose State also appears to be having a revival. They played in and won their first bowl game since the 1990 California Raisin Bowl, which I had the honor of playing in (I broke my wrist in the first quarter!).

So, as you can see, all roads to the NFL playoffs pass through San Jose State!
