Why were the early (1st and 2nd century) Christians persecuted? This is one of the research questions I am addressing in my overall thesis. In the coming week I will make a few posts on the subject, but before I do that I thought it might be fun to do a quiz. So, here it goes. True or False:
T/F Since the reign of Nero, it was illegal to practice Christianity in the Roman Empire.
T/F Christians were charged with being atheists.
T/F Emperor worship was enforced by the Roman government.
T/F Failure to worship the emperor was tantamount to political disloyalty and could ultimately be considered treason.
T/F When a Christian was brought to trial, he or she was nearly always executed.
T/F Sometimes Christians volunteered to be martyrs.
T/F Persecution of Christians was frequent and wide-spread in the first two centuries.
