One of the more laughable claims of Brown's 'scholars' in The Da Vinci Code is that the Gnostic texts that suppossedly give us more reliable information regarding the historical (and therefore real) Jesus have been hidden and suppressed by the Church. If you are interested in learning what these texts have to say (and I would encourage you to read them) here are the three most mentioned in The Da Vinci Code (available on the WORLDWIDE WEB!):
The Gospel of Thomas
http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/thomas.html
The Gospel of Phillip
http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/gospelphilip.html
The Gospel of Mary Magdalene
http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/gospelmary.html
* The dates on the website Early Christian Writings I find to be rather arbitrary and questionable. Most scholars would date the Gospel of Mary late third possibly fourth century. Nevertheless, the site is a good place to read the texts and get some general information regarding each work.
