The Black Room

Each room in the Roundel has a name. Mine is called the "Black" Room. It is named for Matthew Black, former principal of St Mary's College (the college where Divinity students of St Andrews study).

You can click on the title "The Black Room" for a link to a brief bio on his life. Professor Black was an amazingly gifted scholar. He started out as an Old Testament professor and finished his career as a New Testament scholar. He has a distinction that no one will probably ever have again--he was the president of both the Society for Old Testament Studies and its New Testament counterpart, Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas.
